St Bartholomews Church News June 2010

The St George's Day Quiz night was a great success with almost all chairs and tables being used for the ten teams. The two Ians had produced excellent questions to commemorate the day and after a closely fought contest the winners were two well known families of the village and two more recent residents. The winning team were presented with the trophy and two bottles of wine, courtesy of the quiz masters who also ensured that the youngest team, who did very well were presented with a wooden spoon. Many thanks to all who participated and especially the quiz masters and scorer. The event raised over £270 which included one or two donations from residents who could not attend.

Our next major village fund raising event is the Dog Show on Sunday June 13th starting at 12.30pm at Naunton House Farm , just outside the village; the farm drive is almost opposite the North Piddle junction. As well as the various dog show events there will be a barbecue, games and fete stalls - so please come along and enjoy yourselves and support our historic church and social centre in the village.

Finally a reminder of the talk by Kalantha Brewis in the church at 7.00pm on Wednesday 9th June. Kalantha is walking barefooted from Eckington to the Birmingham Womens' Hospital for a charity which is helping the very ill young women of Ethiopia, details of which were in last month's magazine. After the talk over wine and snacks there will be a chance to meet Kalantha and talk to her about the charity and her walk. Please come and support this unglamorous, but very needy project. Ring Gill for further details 01386 462156 or just come along.
